How do I hand off context between AI sessions?
A new session starts with nothing, so a handoff means writing the project state somewhere outside the conversation - the goal, what is done, what was tried and rejected, and what is still open - and giving the next session a way to read it.

What a handoff actually has to contain
The handoffs developers write by hand converge on four things: the goal, what is already done, what was tried and rejected, and the decisions still open. The third is the one people say they would fight hardest to keep, and the one a summary drops first.
If you paste that by hand into each new session, it works - and it costs you the paste, every time, and it goes stale the moment you forget once.
The same record, read automatically
Brrainy keeps that record as memory rather than as a file you maintain. Conversations from your assistants are captured by the browser extension; your connected apps feed the same memory; and anything an agent decides it should keep, it saves with brain_remember.
The next session does not need the paste. An MCP-capable client calls brain_recall and gets what is relevant to what it is doing.
Setting it up once
The hosted MCP server speaks Streamable HTTP and authenticates with a personal API token. Once a client is connected it gets exactly two tools - brain_recall and brain_remember - plus guided prompts for briefing, past decisions, what is still open, and catching up.
The honest limits
A handoff is only as good as what was captured. Brrainy cannot hand off a decision nobody recorded.
And retrieval quality is the whole game here: an agent gets what the recall returns, so this is worth testing on your own work before you rely on it.
Questions
- Is this just a notes file with extra steps?
- A file works, and many developers use one. The difference is that the next session reads this one itself instead of waiting for you to paste it, and it carries what you captured across tools rather than one repository.
- What are the two MCP tools?
- brain_recall retrieves from your memory, and brain_remember saves to it. That is the whole surface an agent gets.
